How does SmartLipo work?

A very small cannula (tube), which is approximately 10 to 20 millimeters in diameter, contains a laser and is inserted into the skin. The cannula is moved back and forth delivering the energy from the laser directly to the fat cells. This causes them to rupture and easily drain away. The laser energy also interacts with the dermis, causing collagen shrinkage. Dr. Masters and Dr. Sibley mark the areas of the body you have chosen for fat removal. Before pictures of these areas are taken and placed in your file. A Tumescent (numbing) fluid is injected to numb the areas. The small laser pen is inserted under the skin, causing the fat cells to rupture. The fluid that is released from those fat cells is drained away, and the laser allows small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact. This results in less bleeding and swelling. The collagen in the skin is also affected, causing the skin to shrink and tighten.

Is SmartLipo right for me?

If You have areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, you are a good candidate for SmartLipo. Ideal candidates are in good health, of normal body weight, and have realistic expectations for results. We treat both women and men with the SmartLipo procedure.

Which areas of the body can be treated with SmartLipo?

How Long does the SmartLipo procedure take?

The session may last from 45 minutes to one hour for each area treated. For most patients, only one session is required. With patients who choose multiple areas with larger amounts of fat, two appointments may be required. There is no extra charge to create two separate appointments. If a touch up session is required, it will be noted in follow up sessions, and usually completed at no charge after four months.

How much fat can you take out at a time?

Using SmartLipo, the doctors can remove up to 3500 mls of fat per session.

Does the fat come back after it is removed with SmartLipo?

Adult patients do not regenerate new fat cells. Fat cells are permanently destroyed during the SmartLipo procedure. Afterwards, if you gain weight, most fat will be deposited in other areas of the body, where the procedure was not performed. The best way to ensure success is to continue to exercise after the procedure and watch your diet. SmartLipo is a jump start that helps you find your way to a healthier lifestyle. Diet and exercise is key to long term success.

Where is the SmartLipo procedure done?

Advanced Skin Solutions is located at 8172-D South Lewis Avenue in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dr. Masters has created a surgical suite in the office where SmartLipo is performed. It contains all of the tools you would find in traditional outpatient surgical centers. Safety is the number one priority of our doctors and staff. Is SmartLipo safe?

The SmartLipo procedure has received approval by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).  The laser is safe, easily differentiating between fat cells and other tissues, including nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues. Dr. Masters and Dr. Sibley have been trained by, and certified to perform the SmartLipo procedure, by Dr. Dwight Reynolds in Florida.

Will I see results quickly?

After the SmartLipo procedure is complete, the treated areas will appear smaller and tighter. By the eighth week following SmartLipo, the skin will adjust to the body shape. The process is gradual, and patients notice the best results after the two month mark.

After I leave the office, what happens next?

All patients will leave wearing a compression garment, which helps reduce swelling, and tightens the skin and muscle. Patients are then scheduled to come back for follow up visits at no cost. The next morning, we will change your dressings and begin charting your progress. Depending on the areas treated with SmartLipo, many patients can return to work in just twenty four hours, but typically, within 48 hours, with no major inconvenience. We normally like to advise a day or two of rest.

Will my insurance cover the cost of SmartLipo?

This procedure is cosmetic, which insurance does not cover. Advanced Skin Solutions offers Capital One Health care financing, and after answering a few short questions, we will submit the application for you.
